A Weekend Reset in Nature

Dearest friend,

This past weekend, we stepped away from the noise of everyday life for a quiet family getaway, one of those rare pauses that feels both far to short and exactly what your soul needed.

For a few days, life slowed down.

The men spent hours by the water, patiently fishing, while the women rested in the simplest and most meaningful ways: long conversations and cups of coffee. The children filled the space with swimming, playing ball and exploring. We went on long, peaceful walks, allowing ourselves to truly notice our surroundings—the stillness, the fresh air, the quiet beauty that so often goes overlooked in daily life.

Meals became moments of togetherness, where wholesome food and heartfelt conversations nourished more than just our bodies. Though the weekend was short, it gave us something deeply valuable: rest.

There is something about being surrounded by nature that brings a calm no luxury ever could. Of course, nature had its own way of reminding us who was really in charge. The ants were relentless—leave anything unattended for even a moment and they would arrive in full force, uninvited but determined. It quickly became part of the adventure and gave us all something to laugh about throughout the weekend.

Adding to the wildness of the experience, the nearby river was home to crocodiles and hippos. During the day, we occasionally spotted a crocodile or two gliding quietly through the water. At night, the unseen presence of hippos made itself known through distant, echoing sounds—powerful and slightly eerie, yet strangely comforting. Though we never caught a glimpse of them, their presence added a sense of awe and respect for the environment we were in.

One of the most special parts of the weekend was waking up before sunrise. In those quiet early hours, we witnessed the gentle unfolding of a new day—the sky slowly brightening, the world stirring awake. There was something deeply humbling about it, standing quietly in the soft morning light, feeling small in the best possible way.

This getaway reminded me that rest doesn’t need to be complicated or extravagant.

Sometimes, it is found in simple moments: good company, slow mornings, nature all around you and the freedom to simply exist without life running away with you. Even when the ants try to join in, it’s all part of the story.

With love,
